Job Purpose

The business analyst’s primary role is to support and enable business change. They will be responsible for eliciting requirements from business owners and by managing those requirements throughout the development lifecycle and onto implementation.

The business analyst will have strong links to the project and business leads, the architecture team and the test team, ensuring requirements traceability through to test cases.

A senior business analyst will also be responsible for improving standards, shaping new business opportunities, mentoring and helping to ensure quality standards are maintained.

The Role

• Work with Product Owners shape new business opportunities, quantify the scale of change required to realise opportunities and support benefits case definition.
• Capture, and document business requirements, where necessary translating these into detailed comprehensive functional requirements/design.
• Work with suppliers and/or internal development functions to ensure requirements/functional design are implemented in line with business expectations.
• Ensure that all analysis artefacts are produced according to the pre-defined company quality standards.
• Define and document any change to existing business processes and the company Business Model.
• Document any assumptions, dependencies and risks relating to the proposed change/improvement.
• Improve/extend the range of Business Analysis tools and techniques used throughout the team.
• Work with the team to support the development of Business Analysts and to ensure Quality standards are maintained.

Accountabilities

• To gain an understanding of the business functions as a whole
• To gain an in-depth functional and technical knowledge of company systems, as well as full understanding of how the business operations use them.
• Have a systematic, disciplined and analytical approach.
• Proactively seek out opportunities and enhancements to applications through an understanding of the applications use and current capabilities.
• To extrapolate the business requirements relating to system changes and work with Architects on technical requirements and their feasibility.
• Where applicable, functionally describe how business requirements should be fulfilled.
• To liaise with 3rd party suppliers to define / confirm requirements.
• Support the Analysis Manager in maintaining a prioritised set of requirements that may be incorporated into future releases of applications based on knowledge gained from the business.
• To facilitate and support business change.
• To document business processes, both current and future state, suggest improvement opportunities where necessary.
• Be responsible for assuring the change is of sufficient quality before its release.
• To use established techniques to assess and analyse risks and to make timely and workable decisions.
• To build effective relationships to encourage a positive team environment.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

• Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification (which could include ISEB certification).
• Experience as a senior business analyst or similar role.
• Experience within an E-Commerce company is preferable.
• A strong customer focus, recognising internal and external customers, establishing effective relationships.
• Exposure to change within regulated markets/industries including translation of regulatory requirements into clear, concise business requirements.
• Strong communication (verbal/written) and influencing skills, with an ability to manage internal and external relationships up to senior levels of management.
• Experience capturing specific, measurable and accurate requirements using business terminology.
• Proven mentoring experience.
• Experience translating business requirements into functional requirements and applying the most appropriate requirement specification techniques in order to communicate to the business (for instance, use of screen mock-ups, prototypes etc).
• Experience understanding the underlying issues in complex problems or situations by correctly relating these to simpler or better understood concepts, models or previous experiences.
• Flexibility to operate within an iterative/agile (Scrum) project environment.
• Ability to undertake gap analysis between existing operations and processes and make suitable recommendations to remedy any gaps.
• Strong diplomacy, persuasion, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
