UK spread betting firm Spreadex has recorded its highest ever volume of sports bets during the month of June as it benefited from increased interest as a result of the football World Cup as well as the launch of the company’s new fixed odds betting service earlier this year.

Spreadex said that sports bets increased by 16 per cent compared to its previous highest levels set in March of this year, while also recording the company’s highest ever number of unique bettors and new registered accounts.

“The World Cup is the biggest betting event on the globe and it always helps when matches are shown on terrestrial television rather than satellite TV, but we’ve been surprised at the upturn in business,” said Spreadex spokesman Andy MacKenzie. “England’s early exit doesn’t seem to have had a negative impact. In fact we’ve had higher numbers of bets placed on many matches featuring other countries rather than the games involving the Three Lions.”

The company said it has also seen healthy betting levels in its financial trading room and on its ShortsandLongs financial spread betting platform.

“With further product improvements coming soon, including accumulators and multiples for our fixed odds sports service, new financial markets for both Spreadex and ShortsandLongs, and mobile sports betting later this year, we are confident we can build on these levels of growth,” added MacKenzie.
