Following his shock, second round elimination from the Toronto Masters, Roger Federer’s 234-week reign as world number one is in jeopardy and Sky Bet now make the Swiss master 9/2 to occupy the top spot at year-end.
Wimbledon champion, Rafa Nadal, is Sky Bet’s 1/3 favourite to top the ATP rankings at the end of the year and Sky Bet quote 25/1 for the Spaniard to follow up his SW19 triumph with wins at the US Open, the Olympics and the Davis Cup.
Nadal is 6/5 with Sky Bet to win more Grand Slams than Federer (7/4, tie 5/2) in 2009.
Sky Bet have also eased Federer’s odds of winning the US Open this year from 11/10 to 6/4, while Nadal has shortened to 2/1 from 5/2.
Sky Bet spokesperson, Helen Jacob, said, “Nadal beating Federer in his own back yard at Wimbledon this year could signal a changing of the guard and the next few months will be crucial in determining whether or not Rafa can definitively usurp Federer as the dominant force in men’s tennis.”
Britain’s Andy Murray, who cruised into round three of the Toronto Masters after beating Thomas Johansson 6-4, 6-4, is 5/6 to finish in the top eight of the ATP rankings at year-end. He is currently ranked number nine.
