A William Hill telephone client has staked the largest ever bet on the World Cup, gambling 500,000 euros on Germany at odds of 10/11 to eliminate Spain in their Semi Final match on Wednesday.

We cannot recall ever having taken a bigger stake on a World Cup match and the potential profit from the bet is 454,000 euros' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe. 'Germany were already the only result we feared in the competition, and this bet, from a European-based client guarantees that we will now be supporting anyone but them.'
Hills have also already taken bets of 100,000 euros and 80,000 euros for Germany to win the World Cup and another of 75,000 euros for Germany to eliminate Spain.
'Germany have really impressed punters since hitting four goals past both England and Argentina and have emerged as new favourites to win the World Cup' added Sharep.
Hills now make both Germany and Spain 17/20 to reach the Final while they are each 17/10 to win in 90 minutes play; 21/10 to draw. Hills offeer 10/1 for Germany and for Spain to win during extra time.It is 9/2 for the match to go to a penalty shoot-out, 9/1 Germany and Spain to win on penalties.
WILLIAM HILL MAKE GERMANY 15/8 FAVOURITES TO WIN THE WORLD CUP WITH SPAIN AT 2/1; HOLAND 11/5 AND URUGUAY 12/1.
