Sky Bet have installed David Villa as a 13/8 chance to be Barcelona’s top league scorer next season following his £34.2m move to the Nou Camp.

The Spain international, who topped the scoring charts at Euro 2008 despite being injured for the final, is a 6/1 shot to be La Liga’s top marksman next term.

Sky Bet have also pitted the 28-year-old Asturian against La Liga’s reigning top scorer Lionel Messi in a season match bet and go evens that he outscores his prolific team-mate (8/11).

Sky Bet’s football betting spokesman Andy Clarke said: “Villa may be prolific but he's up against Messi for top scorer honours at Barca and in la Liga. Messi hit 34 in 30 starts this season so will be very hard to beat.”

Barcelona’s signing of Villa and the potential arrival of Cesc Fabregas could trigger the departure of rival strikers Thierry Henry and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Thierry Henry is widely expected to be playing in the MLS next season but the future of Ibrahimovic is less clear-cut. Sky Bet make Man City 7/2 to sign the Swede, with the same price offered for him to join Chelsea.
