Sky Bet have installed Alan Pardew as a 9/2 chance in their next permanent Celtic manager betting after the Southampton boss emerged as a surprise contender for the Hoops hot seat.

Pardew is now second favourite in the betting behind interim manager Neil Lennon (11/8), who will remain in charge until the end of the season.

Scotland boss Craig Levein (12/1) is also said to be on the Celtic board’s shortlist.

Sky Bet’s football betting spokeswoman Helen Jacob said: “We didn’t have Pardew in the Celtic manager betting until this story emerged today but he certainly has the credentials. He has done brilliantly with Southampton this season, guiding them to the Johnstone’s Paint trophy and pushing for a play-off berth despite their ten-point deduction.”
