Sky Bet make Rafa Benitez’s odds of starting next season as Liverpool manager a 6/4 chance after the Spaniard once again vented his frustration at the lack of investment in the club.
Benitez warned that quality signings this summer are imperative if the Reds are to contend for the 2010/11 Premier League and Sky Bet go 1/2 that he leaves Merseyside before next season, with Jose Mourinho 9/4 favourite to be his successor.
Benitez was criticised for substituting star striker Fernando Torres with 25 minutes remaining in Sunday’s 1-1 draw at St Andrews, leaving skipper Steven Gerrard bemused at the decision. With a top four finish in doubt, Sky Bet go 11/4 that either Torres or Gerrard leaves the club this summer and 12/1 for both to quit Anfield.
Sky Bet’s football betting spokesman Mike Triffitt said: “It’s unlikely that Benitez will remain at the club if Champions League football is not assured and although it’s hard to envisage Gerrard moving on, Torres is sure to be targeted over the summer, especially if he wows during the World Cup.”
Liverpool are 4/6 to overturn a 2-1 first-leg deficit and qualify past Benfica in the Europa League tonight and 7/2 to end their miserable season with a piece of silverware.
