Italy have been slashed to 5/1, from 18/1, to win Euro 2008 after qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition last night (Tues).

And the Azzurri are evens to progress to the semi finals at the expense of Spain. The Group D winners are 8/11 to make it to the last four.

Ladbrokes spokesman, Nick Weinberg, said: “Our miserable run continued. Victories for the Netherlands and Italy meant that it was another match day to forget for the layers.

“I’m not sure whose night was worse, Domenech or the bookies.”

The Harrow-based firm refunded all first scorer bets on Franck Ribery after the Bayern Munich midfielder was substituted whilst the France versus Italy game was 0-0.
