Sky Bet have slashed Wayne Rooney’s odds in their 2010 FIFA World Player of the Year betting to 7/2 (from 10/1) after he headed home a brace at the San Siro on Tuesday, taking his goal tally this season to a personal best of 25.

Cristiano Ronaldo, whose Real Madrid side went down 1-0 to Lyon in their Champions League first leg on Tuesday, has been lengthened to 3/1 in the 2010 FIFA World Player of the Year betting and now shares favouritism with 2009 winner Lionel Messi.

Rooney has scored nine goals in his last six outings for Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson has backed his prolific striker to reach 30 goals this season. He is 10/11 with Sky Bet to bag 30 in the Premier League alone.

Sky Bet's football betting spokeswoman Helen Jacob said: "Rooney could potentially make a clean sweep of awards this season, which would cost us a fortune. He has been backed into 1/7 from 5/2 to be named PFA Players’ Player of the Year and is also among the favourites for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.”
