Since Monday, a group of 104 French casinos whose Group Barrière, Group Tranchant and Joagroupe have filed complaint in the court six online foreign casinos as Bwin, Unibet, Sportingbet for offering illegal online gambling operations in France.

These owners of casinos fight then in front of the correctional court of Paris for the sanction of these foreign sites that they report having violated the French law to the detriment of legal operators that comply with very stringent tax regulations. While the draft of the law on poker, casino and online sports betting will be considered in the Senate from February the 23rd and enters its validation expected for the month of June, the group Tranchant wants already to exclude these sites of online gambling to maintain a good position on the French market.

Thus, the group wants to erase these sites for at least two years. Moreover, most of these foreign sites brought to justice were expected to apply for an operating license in the opening of the market. In their side, these accused websites denounce France of violating the European Convention which states that Member States should accept the free movement of services gambling. Moreover, as some European countries, France has already been charged for an offense against the principle, proceeding conducted by the European Commissioner for Internal Market Charlie McCreevy has failed following the trial of Bwin against the State of Portugal. In this trial, Portugal has been successful in banning this site of poker and sports betting to operate on Portuguese territory in the interest of ensuring the safety of its players. This will be a very interesting story to follow.
