David James’ loan deal from Portsmouth to Stoke is off after the two clubs failed to reach an agreement by Friday’s midday deadline. Sky Bet now make the veteran Pompey keeper 11/10 (from 5/4) to remain at Fratton Park after the January transfer window closes.
James has made just one first-team appearance for Portsmouth in the past two months due to injury and the potential move to Stoke was viewed as a positive step in his quest to guarantee a place in Fabio Capello’s World Cup squad. Sky Bet make the 39-year-old stopper 5/4 favourite to start England’s first World Cup finals match in Rustenburg.
