Andy Murray has been handed a tough Australian Open draw, with defending champion Rafa Nadal lying in wait in the final eight and Sky Bet go 2/1 that Murray is eliminated in the quarter-finals.
The draw means that Murray may have to beat Nadal, Del Potro and Federer in successive matches to win his maiden Grand Slam title and Sky Bet are offering early odds on the potential matches (bets void if match does not take place). Murray is a 5/4 chance to beat Nadal (4/7) should they meet in the quarter-finals, 5/6 to overcome Del Potro (5/6) in the semis and 6/5 to beat world number one Roger Federer (8/13) in the final.
Sky Bet’s tennis betting expert Chris Kennedy said: “Murray looks to have a very testing draw as the number 5 seed and if he can come through and win the title then he will have certainly earned it.”
Murray will learn his first-round opponent when qualifying ends on Sunday and Sky Bet go 9/2 that he is knocked out in the first three rounds, with 6/1 available for him to win his first Grand Slam in Melbourne.
