Ladbrokes has laid a £20,000 bet on Rafael Nadal to win Wimbledon, prompting the firm to go 4/1, from 5/1, about the Spaniard.

And Roger Federer is now out to 11/10 from even money to retain his title.

Ladbrokes spokesman, Nick Weinberg, said: “Nadal came close to breaking Federer’s grass court stranglehold last year.

“He’ll go into the championships full of confidence this time around following his demolition of the world number one at Roland Garros. He’s already attracting considerable interest from punters.”

Nadal is 9/2 to win the upcoming Artois Championship.
