Following Amir Khan’s successful defence of his WBA world light-welterweight title, speculation is mounting over who he will fight next and boxing betting specialists Sky Bet have priced up a number of 2010 potential match-ups for the Bolton fighter.

Khan, who celebrated a 76-second defeat over Ukrainian Dmitriy Salita in Newcastle on Saturday, intends to fulfil a life-long dream of fighting in the United States for the first time in 2010 and will discuss potential opponents with trainer Freddie Roach in the New Year.

Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez has been named by Roach as a likely candidate and Sky Bet make Khan 4/6 for victory should the fight take place next year.

Sky Bet’s boxing betting spokesman Scott Springgay said “After the total humiliation Khan dished out to Salita, the boxing world is now sitting up and taking notice of the impressive young Brit.

“Khan’s camp will have their pick of fights now but I suspect they will go for someone well known in America but without much of a punch. I think Pauli Malignaggi fits that bill perfectly but the ageing Juan Manuel Marquez would also be tempting.”

Britain's Ricky Hatton is also a potential opponent and Sky Bet make Khan slight favourite at 4/7 to defeat the Hitman in 2010. A match-up between Khan and Manny Pacquiao has even been mentioned and the Brit has been installed as 7/2 outsider to beat the five-weight, five-time world champion by the end of next year.

Sky Bet’s Scott Springgay continued: “If Khan continues to impress and beats someone like Marquez on American soil then maybe a dream fight against his sparring partner Manny Pacquiao could become a reality late in 2010.

“However, the British public will be hoping to see Khan take on Hatton on home soil and the way their two careers are going, Khan is now the favourite to win that bout.”
