The New Zealand Racing Board has appointed a former head of English bookmaker Ladbrokes international operations, Martin Saunders, as general manager of wagering.
It is the second time this year the board has gone to the northern hemisphere to fill a senior position, with former chief operating officer of Racecourse Media Group, Andrew Brown, taking over as chief executive in May.
Saunders began his career with Ladbrokes as a trainee betting office manager in 1986 and worked his way through several positions before become managing director of Ladbrokes International in 2001.
Under his stewardship, he oversaw the move into casino, poker and bingo as Ladbrokes' online gaming services developed.
He joined 32Red Plc, a Gibraltar-based gaming company, as trading director in October 2006, where his duties included sports book management and new business development.
