A new campaign against Ohio Issue 3 has launched prior to the Nov. 3 state-wide election, urging Ohio citizens to reject the bid by out-of-state casino interests to rewrite Ohio's constitution.
The Wrong Time, Wrong Plan campaign points out perceived flaws of Ohio Issue 3 to pro-gambling citizens in the state, letting them know that the Ohio casino issue would provide a constitutional monopoly to "fat cat" out-of-state casino operators that have written their own rules.
"It's fine if you support gambling, but Issue 3 is the wrong time and the wrong plan to put casinos in Ohio," said campaign spokesperson Bob Clegg. "Issue 3 would tie the hands of our elected officials, essentially handingl ucrative casino monopolies to businesses in Michigan and Pennsylvania. Issue 3 is a raw deal for Ohio."
Clegg said the Wrong Time, Wrong Plan campaign is coming out against Issue 3 just prior to the Nov. 3 election to persuade Ohio voters -- especially those who are pro-gambling -- to wait for a better plan.
"Instead of engaging in anti-gambling propaganda, the Wrong Time, Wrong Plan campaign is just sticking to the facts about this ill-devised plan," Clegg said. "And the facts are that this Ohio casino issue is an unfair plan that will write into the state constitution where out-of-state operators are going to set up shop, how they'll operate, how much they'll pay the state, and for what. We can do better for Ohio."
The Wrong Time, Wrong Plan campaign will operate between now and Election Day primarily as a grassroots online social media campaign. The campaign against Ohio Issue 3 is directly contacting more than 5 million Ohio voters by e-mail, encouraging them to visit the Wrong Time, Wrong Plan Web site where they can
learn more about the flaws of the Ohio casino issue and watch and listen to campaign advertisements. Radio advertisements will also launch in Columbus, Dayton and Toledo.
