Sky Bet have lengthened Walter Smith’s odds of starting next season as Rangers manager to 6/5 (from 5/6).
The club have received ‘tentative enquiries’ from potential buyers and Smith admits that new owners could spell the end of his tenure at Ibrox.
Smith's current contract comes to an end in January and following his admission that he would be "happy" to leave Ibrox if his departure is in the best interests of the club, Sky Bet now make him 8/13 to leave the club before the start of next season.
Sky Bet’s football betting spokesman Richard Browning said: “Smith’s contract expires in January and he might deem this an opportune time to leave the club, who look to have real money problems, which will restrict transfer activity this winter and inevitably cause unrest among the players.”
After losing heavily to Unirea Urziceni in the Champions League in midweek, Rangers fought back to claim a 1-1 draw with Hibernian at Ibrox on Saturday, with Celtic returning to the summit after sealing a 2-1 away victory over Hamilton. Sky Bet have lengthened the odds of Rangers retaining their SPL crown to 6/4 (from even money).
