Following Liverpool’s defeat to Lyon, money is coming in for Rafa Benitez in Sky Bet’s first Premier League manager to go betting. The Harrogate-based firm have cut the Spaniard’s odd to 6/1 (from 8/1) to be the first boss out and have also lengthened his odds of seeing out the season at Anfield to 8/11 (from 4/7).

Kenny Dalglish heads the betting to succeed Benitez at 9/4, with Jose Mourinho and Roberto Mancini joint second favourites at 4/1.

The Merseysiders now face an uphill battle to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League and are 11/10 with Sky Bet to do so (4/6 to be eliminated at the group stage). Liverpool are out to 20/1 to lift the Champions League title.

Sky Bet’s football betting spokeswoman, Helen Jacob, said: “Money is coming thick and fast this morning for Benitez to be the first casualty of the Premier League sack race.

“After coming second in the league last season, much was expected of Liverpool and Benitez this year and it looks as though their domestic and European title aspirations, as well as Rafa Benitez’s future at the club, are now in serious jeopardy.

“Benitez may have the backing of the players but will the club’s owners, who are touting for a sale, do likewise given the devastating financial implications of being dumped out of Europe?”
