Macau casinos had a banner month in August, according to revenue reports being circulated.

Unofficial figures had the six licensed casino operations, involving 32 casinos, reporting gross revenues of $1.4 billion. This was the largest monthly revenue reported in Macau’s gaming history.

Said one observer: "It’s like someone poured boiling water over an anthill. Gamblers are certainly finding their way here…in hordes."

Chinese officials in Beijing were given credit for the blockbuster. They eased travel restrictions from nearby Guangdong province.

Without individual results being available, it was expected that U.S. operators Wynn Resorts Ltd. (WYNN), Las Vegas Sands Corp. (LVS), and MGM MIRAGE Inc. (MGM) would benefit from the August gaming surge.
