Sergio Garcia is now 3/1 clear favourite with Sky Bet to be the next European to win a major, after claiming his first PGA Tour victory in three years at Sawgrass on Sunday.

The Spaniard beat Paul Goydos in a play-off to win the Players Championship, dubbed the ‘fifth major’ and has been cut from 14/1 to 6/1 to win a major this year. Garcia has also been trimmed from 50/1 to 22/1 to win the US Open and is 18/1 (from 28/1) to win the British Open.

Garcia has also been slashed from 150/1 to 6/1 second favourite to top the US Money List without Tiger Woods.

Sky Bet’s golf compiler, Andy Thorp, said, “Garcia thoroughly deserved to win this week as he struck the ball better than anyone in the field. He even managed to hole a few putts for once and the confidence boost he will get from this victory could well see him go on to win a major this year.”
