Internet-poker

A task force against companies and accounts allegedly associated with online gambling has taken a near Crusader stance on their jobs. Another seizure by federal agents, this time targeting a Forshay Enterprises, Inc., attacked six different Wachovia bank based accounts. This marks the fifteenth set of seizures against the online gambling world.

For federal agents, the theme of the Summer of 2009 seemed to be the enforcement of the UIGEA. Beginning in July, accounts had been seized. First, Poker Stars and Full Tilt poker lost millions to seizures, monies which they ultimately had to pay back with their cut of the revenue. August also took several hits against the gambling world this time targeting casinos over poker rooms.

The warrant allowing this seizure was signed in Maryland, under the Maryland branch of the U.S. District Court. Magistrate Judge Paul Grimm signed this warrant into effect, allowing the Crusade to continue. The main justification utilized by all of the seizures that have been taking place were simply, "money laundering."

In any event, the online gambling venues lose the winnings that are ultimately to be returned to the player. While the casinos will recover and be able to repay those who took the hit, the ultimate theme that may lie behind the government's action could be a simple scare tactic. Like a player holding a pair of Jacks who sees an Ace on the river backed by a player's large bet, the casinos may fold and stand up from the table. Should their actions continue, federal agencies could force casinos into a corner, and thus out of our country.

Current legislation is in the works to help legalize online gambling, and recent partnerships with one of the world's largest purveyors of online gambling and one of the United State's largest casino operators could help push forth gaming at an unprecedented rate. Unfortunately, players can only sit back and wait for their redistributed checks, hope for the best, or contact their representation in Congress.
