Despite his fears that he may miss out on next summer’s World Cup, David Beckham is 1-5 with bookmaker Coral to be part of Fabio Capello’s squad in South Africa. The midfielder is 12-1 to score with a free-kick against Croatia tomorrow night, while in-form striker Jermain Defoe is 8-1 to score two or more at Wembley, and 1-9 (from 1-7) to be part of the World Cup squad.

Other players backed to be part of Capello’s squad next summer include James Milner, 13-8 (from 2-1), and Matthew Upson, 1-3 (from 4-6).

“Unsurprisingly, David Beckham is not taking a World Cup place for granted, but we reckon Fabio Capello will take him to South Africa, especially as Becks has said he has already had offers from three or four top European clubs, and that’s where he’ll need to be playing to be part of Capello’s plans,” said Coral’s David Stevens.

England are 4-7 with Coral to record the win that will book their place in South Africa, and 8-1 to do it in style with four or more goals.

“Two years ago we were gutted when England failed to qualify for Euro 2008, but under Capello, England’s presence at the World Cup looks all but assured, and that means we can look forward to next summer, and England’s part in what would be the biggest betting event ever,” said Stevens.
