After beating Ernests Gulbis in straight sets in his opening-round match at Flushing Meadows, Andy Murray looks on course for a comfortable passage to the quarter-finals of the US Open and Sky Bet already make him a 1/2 chance to beat his likely fourth-round opponent, Juan Martin del Potro (6/4). Bets will be void should either player fail to make the quarter-finals.
Sky Bet spokeswoman Helen Jacob said: “With 19th seed Stanislas Warwrinka and 27th seed Ivo Karlovic suffering shock, first-round defeats, Murray’s passage to the quarter-finals looks assured, barring a major upset, with del Potro his likely opponent.
“These early prices give customers a chance to back the Brit in advance and probably get a shade more value.”
Sky Bet are also offering early, semi-final betting and make Murray 4/7 to overcome Rafa Nadal (5/4). In Sky Bet’s mythical final betting, Roger Federer is 4/7 to beat Murray (5/4) for the second year running.
The five-time defending champion is 11/10 favourite for a sixth, consecutive US Open title, with Murray an 11/4 chance to take the title.
Murray goes into his second-round match against Paul Capdeville as 1/200 favourite to win and he is 1/8 to beat the world number 87 in straight sets. 9/2 is on offer for the Chilean to claim a set and he is 20/1 to eliminate Murray.
