Sky Bet are praying that Fernando Torres fails to find the net tonight at Anfield after running up a six-figure liability on an enhanced goalscorer special, which will be landed if the Spaniard scores against Aston Villa.
Going into the weekend, the Harrogate-based bookie offered enhanced odds of 20/1 for Wayne Rooney, Emmanuel Adebayor, Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres all to score in their respective matches and with three-quarters of the accumulator already weighed in, Sky Bet, along with some 2,000 customers, are anxiously waiting to see if the Reds striker will do the business.
Sky Bet’s Helen Jacob said: “Victory for Liverpool with Torres scoring tonight would cap off a terrible weekend of football results. The 20/1 for all four players to score was the best in the industry so it’s little wonder that it was popular.
“The only slight consolation is that we didn’t offer the special on them all to score first as the potential payout could have been millions.”
Arsenal, who have scored ten goals in their first two matches, have been cut to 9/4 (from 4/1) to be the Premier League’s top scoring team this season, while Anelka and Drogba have been slashed to 5/2 with a 10-goal start in Sky Bet’s top scoring Premier League partnership handicap market.
After Wayne Rooney scored his 101st goal for Manchester United, Sky Bet make him 5/1 to break Sir Bobby Charlton’s record of 249 goals and he is 3/1 (from 9/2) to net 20 or more league goals this season.
