And the improving McLaren driver leads Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber –11/4 and 4/1 respectively- whilst Jenson Button is a 6/1 chance.

The Brawn GP talisman is 10/11 to be crowned world champion.

Ladbrokes spokesman, Nick Weinberg, said: “Button had things all his own way at the start of the season. But the pack have slowly but surely made inroads into his lead. And the betting reflects this fact.”

Button is 9/4 to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award.
