Betfred sweet on Candy’s 9/4 Temple Stakes fav

Progressive three-year-old sprinter Amour Propre has been installed the 9/4 favourite by the sponsors for the £100,000 Betfred.com Temple Stakes at Haydock Park on Saturday.

Henry Candy’s colt is unbeaten in his last four races and made an impressive return to action in the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket, coming home two-and-a-half lengths clear of Hoh Hoh Hoh.

Joint second favourites at 5/1 for the Group 2 five-furlong speed test are last year’s King’s Stand Stakes hero Equiano and 2008 Betfred.com Temple Stakes runner-up Borderlescott.

Tax Free, who was fourth in the race last year, is a 6/1 chance to win this time for sprint king ‘Dandy’ Nicholls, while Godolphin’s Dandy Man, who was sent off the 2/1 favourite in 2008, is now a 20/1 chance for a contest in which 17 horses have been declared at the five-day stage.

Betfred boss Fred Done said: “I’m sure this will be another cracking renewal of the Betfred.com Temple Stakes and we could see a potential champion sprinter in action in Amour Propre.”

The world’s biggest independent bookmaker is sponsoring the entire seven-race card at Saturday’s Channel Four-televised Haydock meeting when another highlight will be the Betfred Silver Bowl, a heritage handicap over one mile for three-year-olds which has attracted a bumper entry of 37.

Betfred.com Temple Stakes: 9/4 Amour Propre, 5/1 Borderlescott, Equiano, 6/1 Tax Free, 14/1 Spin Cycle, 16/1 Masta Plasta, Rievaulx World, 20/1 Advanced, Captain Gerrard, Dandy Man, Look Busy, Hogmaneigh, 25/1 Arganil, Total Gallery, 33/1 Judd Street, 50/1 Reverence, 66/1 Wi Dud.
