With the latest bid details submitted to the Olympic Committee this week, Toyko has been the subject of a gamble with bookmakers Coral to follow London and host the 2016 Summer Games and is now 4-1 from 5-1.

Chicago remains at the head of the market at 4-5, with the only other two in contention, Rio de Janeiro and Madrid, at 11-4 and 10-1 respectively.

"We have seen significant support for Tokyo over the last few days and are now 4-1 (from 5-1)," said Coral's spokesman Gary Burton, "although at 4-5 Chicago is the obvious favourite, and with a popular President backing his hometown bid, the Illinois city must surely be the leading candidate at this stage of the proceedings."
