Nigel Clough remains all the rage to get the vacant manager's job at Derby County, according to the bookies.

The Burton boss has been the number one punter's pick since Paul Jewell announced he was quitting the club following Ipswich's 1-0 win at Pride Park.

Ladbrokes shortened Clough's odds again yesterday (Friday) morning after taking more money and are now quoting 6/4 from an initial show of 14/1.

But the uncertainty over the future of the position has left both them and their customers in the dark.

Spokesman Robin Hutchison said: "We know as much as the punters at the moment as it looks like the vacancy will be dependent on results.

"If Chris Hutchings does well he could get the gig on a permanent basis or until the end of the season. But if they continue to slide Derby's hand may be forced.

"What supporters need to ask themselves is whether Nigel Clough will quit Burton when they are 13 points clear at the top of the league?"

The good news for Rams fans is that bookies reckon their team is more likely to be playing Championship football next season than Nottingham Forest.

Ladbrokes make Derby 5/1 to be relegated to League One with Billy Davies' side just 5/4.
