Phil Taylor avoided another first round exit from the Sky Poker Grand Prix with an impressive 2-0 win over Ronnie Baxter and the seven-time World Grand Prix winner is just 8/13 (from 5/6) to take the title again this year, 3/10 (from 8/15) to win the 4th quarter and 40/1 to win the competition without dropping a set.
Taylor was in scintillating form; producing the highest average of the competition so far (96.72), hitting four 180’s and getting two-thirds of the way to a nine-dart finish. ‘The Power’ is 1/7 favourite to beat Colin Osborne in the second round on Thursday and 4/6 to hit most 180s (Osborne 2/1, tie 9/2). It’s 7/1 for a nine-dart finish during the competition and 50/1 for Taylor to hit one tomorrow.
World champion, John Part, kicked off his campaign with a straight sets victory over Chris Mason and is 6/4 to whitewash local hero, Jacko Barry, on Thursday.
