With Newcastle United in turmoil and Michael Owen out of contract in the summer, Sky Bet have opened a book on the Toon skipper’s next club, and make Manchester City 5/2 favourite. Liverpool and Everton, who have also reportedly expressed an interest in the 28 year-old striker, are quoted at 11/4 and 4/1 respectively. It’s 5/4 for Owen still to be a United player following the January transfer window (4/7 to have left Newcastle by January transfer deadline).

Newcastle are 15/8 to win their Carling Cup home tie with fellow Premier League basement dwellers Spurs on Wednesday, having beaten them 4-1 in the league at White Hart Lane back in March. In the last round, Owen came off the bench to score the winner against Coventry and is 11/4 to do the same on Wednesday.

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has appointed London-based investment bank Seymour Price to manage the sale of the club and Sky Bet offer 6/5 that Ashley won’t leave until after January 1, 2009 (8/13 before January 1, 2009). It’s 5/4 for the club to acquire a new manager before they get a new owner (4/7). Kevin Keegan (5/4) is back at the head of the betting to be next manager, with Gus Poyet now 7/1 to land the job.

The Magpies currently lie 19th in the table, while Cup opponents Spurs are bottom of the pile with just two points. Sky Bet quote 5/2 for Newcastle to finish above Spurs in the league and they are 1/2 for a bottom-half finish this season.
