Carling-cup

Ladbrokes offer 5/6 about a non-‘big four’ side claiming this season’s Carling Cup.

Holders Tottenham Hotspur, who open their defence at fellow crisis club Newcastle United, are 10/1 to retain the trophy.

Chelsea are 5/1 favourites, Manchester United and Liverpool are 6/1 chances with Arsenal 12/1 shots. High flying Aston Villa are 11/1.

A top-flight winner of the League Cup is available at 1/12, whilst the bookies are 1/6 about two Premiership sides contesting the final.- They go 2/1 that two of the 'big four' dispute the accolade at Wembley.

Ladbrokes spokesman, Nick Weinberg, said: “Arsenal are the worst result in our book. The 12/1 we’re offering about Arsene Wenger’s men has tempted plenty of punters. But we’ve hardly been knocked over by interest in their north London rivals.”

Basement boys Spurs are 5/6 to win a league game before Newcastle register another victory. The Magpies are available at the same price.
