Flash

So it’s been very well documented just recently that the use of Adobe Flash is looking like it’s going to die a slow and painful death in the near future, as Adobe laid off nearly 700 employees. So the question I have is will this affect developers in the Sportsbook, Casino and Poker industries, and if so how?

Firstly, as I’ve mentioned so many times in the past, Mobile is looking like it really is the way forward now for iGaming as the likes of Betfair, PaddyPower, Ladbrokes and William Hill have started to release Apps which can be taken seriously. Naturally, with the death of Flash comes the death of problems with Apple products, which I’m pretty sure will have the true Techies and Apple Enthusiasts of you out there leaping for joy. HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript is definitely going to be the way forward in Mobile development within Gaming, and I believe that was the case anyway before the news of the demise of Flash hit the masses. Those in the know were already building apps using the above, simply because it makes sense, having apps that are going to work universally across all devices.

So, in short, I don’t think we are going to see much of a ripple effect throughout Gaming with the demise of Flash. In my experience, the most it is used for now is really for advertising and marketing banners, areas that can easily be covered with new and potentially better technologies anyway. Also, for those of you out there in the know, Adobe AIR looks like it is going to solve any small problems or stumbling blocks that arise anyway…
