Pokerchips

If you’ve met the Hyperion team you’ll know that we’re a pretty competitive bunch, this is especially true at the poker table. James is usually the office poker champ which makes him not a very well-liked chap (he’s currently also bowling champion and winner of every single bet I’ve had with him, so I’m definitely not a fan of his).

A few months ago we all went to the Fox Poker Club for a game. Lloyd ended up winning and I came in second, but most importantly, I beat James. My one and only win against him so there was no way I was going to let him live it down, this led to a good few weeks of constant bragging.

Last week I organised a poker game in the office to christen our slick new table. Having significantly annoyed James over the last month he suggested we bet on which one of us would remain in the game longer. Embarrassingly I was the first one out; after I lost most of my chips to James I went all in on trip 3 getting knocked out by Jonny’s straight. After this I was too annoyed to stick around and only returned to the table to watch the last two men standing: my nemesis James and Hyperion’s newcomer Jonny.

By this point Jonny was chip leader, the blinds were something massive and would have definitely knocked James out in another 2 or 3 rounds. Like the maverick he is, he went all in blind, Jonny called. James had pocket twos, Jonny… er… I can’t remember what he had but it was something better that’s for sure. A 2 came up on the turn and then another one on the river. Needless to say everybody was annoyed. Anyway, loads more hands were played and James ended up losing. Good.

Finally, we’ve got a new poker champion, well done Jonny! And James, sorry for this blog, I just really hate losing to you.
