Online betting firm Sky Bet have priced up a 2011 David Haye retirement at 5/1 after the British boxer’s disappointing defeat to Wladimir Klitschko in Hamburg.
Haye, who was beaten as a result of unanimous decision on Saturday night, had originally stated he would not box beyond his 31st birthday in October; defeat to Klitschko now throws those claims in doubt, especially after Haye attributed the loss to a broken toe (he’s 100/1 to promote open toe sandals in a television advert).
Sky Bet make it 5/1 he stays true to his word, while his odds of fighting again in 2011 are set at 1/9. Haye will want Haye v Klitschko II and it’s 3/1 that it happens in 2011, and he’s 3/1 to beat him if the fight goes ahead. Sky Bet also make Haye 3/1 to fighter Wladimir’s older brother Vitai this year and 4/1 to beat him.
But it’s difficult to see either Klitschko brother offering Haye a title fight immediately, so Dereck Chisora and Tyson Fury – who meet at the end of July – look more likely opponents for the former WBA heavyweight champion. Sky Bet’s boxing odds offer 1/7 he meets and beats Chisora in 2011, while Fury is available at 1/9.
