England's chances of winning the Ashes in Australia are the best for a generation, according to Ladbrokes' punters.

The bookies report more support for Andrew Strauss's visitors in the past month than in the past two decades.

David Williams of Ladbrokes said: "It's the most popular England team in Australia for a generation. As the first test approaches we're staring down the barrel of a huge England payout.

"Traditionally punters have been understandably hesitant about backing the visitors in Australia but they've not hung around this time. We'll definitely be cheering on the Aussies."
